I moved to Washington from Illinois in 2005 with my husband. In January 2008 we welcomed our adorable baby girl Roslyn to the family. The three of us share our home with four big dogs and one horse. (Although the horse doesn’t want to come in the house very often). My favorite food is Spaghetti, I could eat it every meal everyday! I have a dual degree in Criminal Social Justice and Forensic Criminal Investigation along with a Masters in Non-Profit Leadership. I have worked with Families and Friends since February 2008. Before being hired my husband and I were both board members for Families & Friends. It is great to know that what I am doing helps make a difference in the lives of violent crime victims and their loved ones. I am lucky to work with such a great team!

I moved to Washington from San Antonio, Texas about 4 ½ years ago with my husband, my two children and my cat. One of my favorite things is FOOTBALL and my husband and I are glued to the couch every Sunday to watch my favorite team, the Indianapolis Colts. One of my other favorite things is my home state of Texas. This is obvious if you step into my office where I have brought just a few Texas items in for when I’m homesick. I joined Families & Friends as a volunteer in 2005 and became a staff member in 2006. I am passionate about working with crime victims and am thankful to work with such a great group of people!

Jenny Wieland
Executive Director
E-mail: jenny@fnfvcv.org

Jenny Wieland's 17-year-old daughter and only child was murdered by another teen in November 1992. It was then that she turned her pain into purpose by working to reduce youth violence -- in hope that other mothers would not have to experience the loss of a child to violent crime. In 1994, Wieland became a founding board member of Mothers Against Violence in America (MAVIA). In early 1995, she left a career as an insurance broker to become MAVIA's Program Director and first employee. During her seven-year tenure with MAVIA, she helped create and implement MAVIA’s many national and local programs including the acclaimed Washington State model of the Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence, and the annual SAVE Youth Summits. In addition, Wieland enjoyed the opportunity to have a hand in creating SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere). During her last three years at MAVIA, Wieland served as the SAVE Program Director, and fostered its national expansion into more than 40 states. While at MAVIA, she championed national efforts to encourage school communities to implement “no-bullying” policies. She served on the Washington State Attorney General’s Task Force on Bullying, and was featured in People Magazine for her bullying prevention work. Wieland was hired in 2002 as the Executive Director of Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims. In addition, Wieland is a well-known consultant in the areas of crime victim advocacy, youth violence prevention, and public policy advocacy. Wieland has been a featured speaker at hundreds of schools and conferences nationwide, including but not limited to the Children’s’ Defense Fund, the National Crime Prevention Council’s Youth Conference, and National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA). She has been involved in many television programs on youth violence including MTV's "Generation Under the Gun.” and HBO’s “Five American Kids, Five American Handguns”. In addition to People Magazine, Wieland has been featured in numerous publications, including Good Housekeeping and Glamour. She received United States Senator Patty Murray’s prestigious “Golden Tennis Shoe” Award in 1999 for her work in youth violence prevention and advocacy for crime victims. Washington State Attorney General, Gov. Christine Gregoire invited Wieland to serve on a Task Force addressing law enforcement’s investigation of missing person cases and unidentified remains. She is a past Board Member of the Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates and helped design and implement the WA State Department of Corrections Victim Council. She has been honored twice by the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office of Victims of Crime for her work on behalf of violent crime victims and their loved ones. She has served on numerous task forces and roundtable discussions sponsored by the Dept. of Justice to recommend changes to increase crime victims’ rights and improve victim services.

By gubernatorial appointment, Wieland served four terms on the State of Washington Sentencing Guidelines Commission. Under her leadership, Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims received the “Moving Mountains” Award by the Office of Crime Victim Advocacy in 2005, and Jenny received the Award individually in 2007. Jenny als regularly updates her message from the Executive Director.
